Mudiyett group performed on 21st July 2014 at Festival Musicas do Mundo in Sines, Portugal 2014. Mudiyett is a traditional ritual theatre and folk dance drama from Kerala. Inscribed in UNESCO, Mudiyett is a 9th-century oral tradition and a rare social practice. It symbolizes the victory of good over evil displayed by the killing of a demon by the goddess. The performance involves the use of mask, body painting and is sacred in nature. Mudiyett is on the verge of extinction as only 3 groups are left in India who can perform this act. One of the leading troupes performing this act is Pazhoor Kunjan Marar Mudiyett Kalakendra. This group has performed at more than 8000 stages across India and abroad as well.
