Foundation

De Kulture Music was founded to develop an Indian network of audio archives and an entertainment resource that delivers the India’s diverse cultural expressions in an entertaining and informative way via all mediums and formats possible. Incorporated in 2005, the company was set up to promote the state-of-the-art authentic music of India which has remained undiscovered. Academically, its an initiative to contribute towards such disciplines as Folkloristics, Performance Studies and Ethnomusicology.

Objective
Although a profit making endeavor, De Kulture Music is primarily an objective rather than a commercial venture, offering broad accessibility to the rarely heard voices and musical instruments from regions all over India. In pursuit of this objective, it brings together the powers of art and technology to deliver recorded sounds of various artists from various parts of India to the widest audience possible.
Methodology
The methodology employed by the company is simplistic, unconventional but evolved in its approach and objective. Natural performances and On Locale/Field Recordings form the basis of capturing musical expressions in the habitat of its origin. The logistics of recording facilities at the Artist’s local dwelling which is usually made up of mud, cowdung, wood etc. act as a catalyst in capturing the natural reverberation of sound waves. The ‘one-take’ performances, the natural ambience and timbre achieved through near field recording techniques result in an audio treat for record listeners In relative terms, the nuances of sounds recorded in naturally acoustic huts surpasses in aesthetics the recordings conducted in modern designed studios. Also, during post production, the minimal editing that is introduced is meant only for filtering clashing frequencies prevalent in the track. What comes out of the entire process is a harmony of projections of the most natural and realistic characteristics of musical expressions for the listeners.

Tapestry
At De Kulture Music, we firmly believe that while communication technology allows greater access to lost forms of music, the pressures of commercialization also present the risk of increasing musical homogeneity and blurring of regional identities. This contributes to the gradual extinction of traditional local music-making practices. We aim to heighten communication among people through the culturally potent and meaning-laden medium of authentic music. Accompanied by informative notes and visuals capturing the local flavors of India, the albums offer a rich tapestry of soundscapes to its listeners.
Sustainable Model of Art Promotion
The revenue earned from the sale of downloads and physical albums support the creation of new projects. A percentage of these revenues are passed on to artists and communities encouraging them to keep alive forms of music that are almost on the verge of extinction. Both the Art and the Artists survive and are sustained by virtue of their merit and are not merely due to patronage.
Repertory
Although generic perceptions evaluate this diverse range of music styles under the banner ‘folk music’ or ‘world music’ the fact of the matter remains that such music travels beyond categorization. The repertoire features devotional songs, amorous songs, festal, pastoral and nuptial songs as well as episodics, threnodies and authentic instrumentals.
Medium of Discovery
De Kulture Music provides a medium through which the listeners or viewers may discover and appreciate other people, other value systems, other civilizations and other realms of human accomplishment. Furthermore, in an increasingly mobile and scattered India, it provides a link for the culturally estranged and isolated to connect with their heritage through a curated and distilled collection of unique records.
Audio Recordings
We promote the understanding and continuity of diverse as well as contemporary grass root cultures. De Kulture Music is dedicated to strengthening people's engagement with their own cultural heritage and enhancing awareness and appreciation of various other cultures through the dissemination of audio recordings and entertainment materials.
